Job Purpose
The Area Manager is responsible for leading, coaching, and developing a Medical Representative team to execute business plans effectively within the assigned territory. This role ensures strong territory performance, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration in alignment with portfolio and business unit strategies within the pharmaceutical industry.Key Responsibilities
Territory Management & Business Development
- Lead territory planning and execution to achieve or exceed sales and performance targets.
- Drive business growth by optimizing team productivity and ensuring effective field force execution.
- Ensure all territory activities are aligned with company strategy and business priorities.
- Maintain and validate customer database accuracy and relevance.
- Manage product-related activities in the assigned territory, including scientific and educational engagement.
- Develop and maintain strong healthcare networks and partnerships with key stakeholders.
People Management & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop Medical Representatives to enhance selling skills, product knowledge, and territory management capabilities.
- Conduct regular field coaching and performance feedback to improve team effectiveness.
- Motivate and build a high-performance team culture with strong accountability and execution mindset.
- Supervise and ensure adherence to agreed working plans and performance standards. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure effective delivery of customer- focused initiatives.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Market Access, and Customer Engagement teams to maximize product performance.
- Participate in regional meetings, national conferences, and company events to support business alignment and knowledge sharing.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all sales and field activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Train and reinforce Code of Conduct and internal guidelines within the team.
- Monitor compliance in daily operations and ensure proper execution across the territory.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, or related healthcare/science disciplines. Experience
- 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical sales as a Medical Representative including 3-5 years in people management.
- Proven experience in territory management, sales execution, and business development.
- Experience leading sales teams and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (Marketing, Market Access, Customer Excellence) is an advantage.
